Cart Has Cod Luring Properties
For about a decade now, the sea anglers at Whitby have been utilising a revolutionary cod bait by the name of CART. Credit for uncovering the cod luring properties lies with the pioneering shore anglers from the region, however in recent times, anglers fishing on the Whitby Charter Boats have also found Cart to be an excellent cod bait for both winter uptiding and summer drift fishing over the wrecks and rough ground for cod.

As always, we at the Whitby Charter Skippers Association (www.wcsa.co.uk) are very interested in the anglers who come to Whitby to fish from our boats. Sea Otter 2 Uptiding Report
Friday saw us fishing off the coast near Robin Hoods Bay in the Long Hole area. Hugh Jones (Taffy) had lovely fish that hit the scales at 9lb 4oz. Sadly Hugh just missed out on first place in the Uptiding festival as his fish was 2 ounces short of the winner caught by Rob Wadsworth on Shytorque.

Uptiding is certainly producing the goods at the moment. Yesterday saw us uptiding on one of the favoured inshore marks of Sandsend and the fish were coming aboard thick and fast at one point. The lads we had on board were all amongst the fish from the off and were so pleased with their catch they made the following report on the Whitby Fishing Forum.

To help keep down costs and encourage people to have a go fishing at anchor,
I have decided to drop the hire charge for rods/reels during the festival this year and offer anglers brand new up tide rods and reels to try out,

With the uptiding festival just around the corner, the winter uptiding season has kicked off big style at Whitby with cod into double figures already coming from the inshore grounds. Today saw Paul Kilpatrick fishing 3/4 of a mile off Sandsend and the lads onboard who travelled all the way from Coventry were certainly not disappointed with cod into double figures and some big coalfish as an added bonus.

Having spoke to a lot of the skippers of late it appears the news of the fast approaching uptide festival has not been generating the level of interest shown in last years excellent event, and I am puzzled to know the reasons why,while the odd skipper is full others have few if any bookings this seems strange especially with the updated first prize of £1000,
 of all the festivals the wcsa hold over the year the uptide/winter one offers in my opinion the best chance for anyone to win novice anglers included,
