After the sucess of last years winter uptiding festival, the Whitby Charter Skippers Association will be running another event this year during late November and early December. This years week long uptiding festival will run from 30th November to 6th December. Glenn Stocks and Stagecoach Supertram from Sheffield will again sponsor the event and the prizes will be £1000 for the heaviest single cod, £300 for second heaviest cod and £200 for 3rd heaviest cod. It was recently publiscised in the Sunday Sun newspaper that GPS jamming trials will be taking place in the north east around Tyneside. An hypothesised outcome of the test is that GPS users may have to pay to gain access to the true GPS readings.

Back in June the Whitby Charter Skippers held a fundraising evening in aid of the local RNLI. All the boats took part and carried anglers at a charge of £10 per head for 3 hours fishing. All the money was donated to the RNLI. For more details please visit the link below.

I was recently lucky enough to obtain a picture of the UK Record Cod. I had noticed there was no online record of the capture and so I went in search of a photograph and the story behind it.
The record for the heaviest cod caught in Uk waters is held at Whitby. The monster cod – a massive 58 pounds 8 ounces was caught from association boat Sea Trek back in 1992.
