We Had Glenn Stocks on Sea Otter 2 on Sunday. We fished a wreck out on the 20 mile ground and Glenn had some cracking cod. A couple of the fish went into double figures, the average stamp was also very good with a lot of fish between 4-7lb.

As always, we at the Whitby Charter Skippers Association (www.wcsa.co.uk) are very interested in the anglers who come to Whitby to fish from our boats. Traditionally it was the old 1lb jigger that was the favoured method utilised by anglers who visited the port, but in recent times we have seen the introduction of shads and various forms of rubber lures. As time has past we are now seeing more and more anglers switching to theses newer methods along with lighter rods and reels.

The weather has not been kind for the last few weeks but we managed to fit a final 94 hour trip in and headed out for the dogger bank for the final long trip of the year – we still hope to get a few short trips and the odd 24 hour if there is enough interest and the weather is good mind.

Thanks to all the anglers who supported this years uptide festival as well as me and the boat, this year we won two daily events with Russel an angler from Mattlock taking the boats first daily prize with a ling of 6lb 12 oz which won him £50 he also won the heaviest any other species overall £100, and Karl Reid from Pickering came third overall with a nice cod of 9lb 3.5oz which also won him a daily prize of £50 as well as third place overall £200 total prize money £400 …

With the uptiding festival just around the corner, the winter uptiding season has kicked off big style at Whitby with cod into double figures already coming from the inshore grounds. Today saw Paul Kilpatrick fishing 3/4 of a mile off Sandsend and the lads onboard who travelled all the way from Coventry were certainly not disappointed with cod into double figures and some big coalfish as an added bonus.

Back in June the Whitby Charter Skippers held a fundraising evening in aid of the local RNLI. All the boats took part and carried anglers at a charge of £10 per head for 3 hours fishing. All the money was donated to the RNLI. For more details please visit the link below.
