The weather has not been kind for the last few weeks but we managed to fit a final 94 hour trip in and headed out for the dogger bank for the final long trip of the year – we still hope to get a few short trips and the odd 24 hour if there is enough interest and the weather is good mind.
We headed north east from Whitby to the dogger tail end and the first two days produced some good fishing with cod typically around the the 15 to 20lb mark and plenty of them.
The highlight of the two days was Ivan Bell’s personnel best of 25lb 8ozs which it has taken him close on 30 years to achieve a nice fish but sadly not the best of the trip which went to yours truly at 27lbs.
All the wrecks we fished on the first two days fished well and produced plenty of fish so it came as a surprise on the third day when we had headed back towards whitby and started fishing in the central area of the Dogger that the fishing dropped off.
The reason soon became apparent when Joyce pulled in a huge piece of new Mono net complete with a big ling still alive, caught in it. The wrecks in this area were obviously been netted and after a couple more stops we decided to call it a day and head back for home everyone having had two days good fishing and not wanting to spoil the last day steaming round trying to find the wrecks which had not been netted.
