Sea Otter 2 — 14 April 2010

On day 7 of the spring festival we had Eric Grieres and his mates on board Sea Otter 2. We started fishing the wrecks 5 miles south east of Whitby and we managed about 15 cod in the first couple of hours fishing. It then went slow so we decided to head out onto the 20 mile where we found a few more fish, mostly cod.

The algea bloom had been making things a bit difficult for us but non the less I decided to try a few of my favourite inshore wrecks on route back to port. There is a small group of wrecks just north of Whitby that I like to work at the right time. Sadly when I arrived most of the wrecks had been boxed off by the local netters, but we managed to locate one we could get the baits into without snagging up on the wreck.

First drop down Eric Griers his into a nice 8 pounder and some of the other lads managed a some codlings too. Our second drift was to be the last of the day and again Eric hit into another 8 pounder. A nice brace of fish which gave him 2nd and 3rd place in the festival daily prize list.

It was a shame we couldnt get onto the other wrecks, but thats fishing, and theres always another day, and certainly some bigger fish to come.

All the best – Paul
