Sea Otter 2 — 02 January 2010

Looking back over 2009 to be honest it has been a good year, as usual the weather allways plays a big part. The last 2 months have been nothing short of disaster as we have lost many days at sea. However as early as March we had some lovely days with the lads enjoying what was to be one of the best starts to the year for quality fish I have seen for a few years.

Overall we had quite a few cod going into the 20lb bracket, so lets start with early March the signs were there that we going to getting one or two over the 20lb mark this year we were seeing quite a few fish around 15-16lb mark it was only a matter of time.

Paul Kilpatrick also has a big passion for cod fishing from the shore and competes every year in the Whitby Sea Anglers Fishing Club. In 1988 Paul Won the North of England Shore fishing competition and has also caught cod well in excess of 20 pounds from the shore. The picture to the left is of Paul with a 16 pound cod caught from Whitby's West Pier in autumn 2007. The capture of this cod is quite a story in itself with Paul taking over half an hour to land the fish after dragging it from the pier end to the band stand in Whitby harbour.
